Bangladesh 175 for 4 (Shakib 13*, Mushfiqur 4*) v West Indies
Bangladesh remained steady despite the loss of two wickets during the second session of the first day of the Dhaka Test, but West Indies would still feel happy with the scalps. Mohammad Mithun and Shadman Islam, who made 76 on his Test debut, were the batsmen dismissed as the home side went to tea on 175 for 4.
It was another session of grafting for Bangladesh as Shadman and Mithun added 64 runs for the third wicket. Shadman struck Warrican and Chase for boundaries during their partnership, the first of which brought about his fifty on debut.
Devendra Bishoo, for the third time in as many innings during this Test series, removed Mithun, this time bowling him with a delivery that was too full for the pull-shot. Bishoo then had Shadman lbw as the left-hander played down the wrong line, a delivery after he had pulled the legspinner for his sixth boundary.
A patient Shadman led the home side to an almost perfect first session until Mominul Haque's unwanted dismissal at the stroke of lunch. The Kemar Roach delivery could have been left alone or perhaps cut away, but Mominul pulled it half-heartedly into mid-on's lap. But before the madness, Shadman and Mominul added 45 runs for the second wicket, following up the Shadman-Soumya Sarkar opening stand that lasted just one minute short of one hour.
Bangladesh's fifth a opening stand of the year batted defensively apart from Shadman's three fours - couple of serene drives and a square-cut. The only time Soumya tried to drive away from his body forcefully, he edged Roston Chase to slip.
Team India's new batting star Prithvi Shaw began his Australia tour on a bright note by hitting a 69-ball 66 on day two of the warm-up match between India and Cricket Australia XI. Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari too got half-centuries while KL Rahul failure to make any notable contribution. The 19-year-old batsman, who made his Test debut a month ago and marked the occasion with a century against the Windies, heads into the four-match series with a burgeoning reputation. There has been a plenty of hype around the right-hander and coach Ravi Shastri even went on to call the Mumbai batsman a combination of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Brian Lara. "He is born to play cricket" Shastri said after the Windies Test series. "He's a spectator's delight. There's a bit of Sachin (Tendulkar) there, a bit of Viru (Virendar Sehwag) in him and when he walks there's a bit of (Brian) Lara as well."
